W E L C O M E!!
Those of you joining the JV team, we begin our tryouts next week. I will take into consideration those who are still at varsity level and will be joining us after the final cut.
The JV team consists of two teams... one is the competitive team, that will be playing in most of the matches , just like varsity with a strict line up 1-4 singles , 1-4 doubles. Then there will be a practicing team, one that will work on strokes and playing matches against each other and the competitive team to gain valuable experience. Try not to get upset if you are not selected for the competitive team... because as many of the girls will tell you, we have fun no matter what!
I will begin to have separate practices , but will also have combined practices ,too. I am only one person... and there are a lot of you so I have to make two teams so that I can be a better coach to all of you.
Now, this is the tough part.... I have to tell you that just because you played on the competitive team last year will not save your spot this year. There is a lot of talent that is new to the team and I will choose who I believe will perform well in the allocated spots on the competitive team.
I will be looking closely at your strokes , attitude, and your work ethic to see where you will best be suited for yourself and the team.
A WORD ABOUT ATTENDANCE....
1. You chose to be a part of a T E A M. that means attendance is mandatory. ( the exception to this is this first week march 10-14, when we've had to change plans last minute. ) If you have a school sponsored event ( DECA , etc ) then you need to let me know in advance when you will not be here .
2. For every practice missed, you miss one competition. This should have started this week, but I am starting it next week because of the irregularity in the schedule this past week. If you are in a club sport, school sports come first. If you are not on the competitive team, then clearly I can't make you sit out of a competition but I will occasionally need to bring people up from the practice team, and your attendance will play a large role in that decision.
3. If you are sick, of course I understand, but the rules are the same.
THE LINE UP for the competitive team...
I will make my decisions hopefully by next Friday, but may need a few more days. I will have a sheet on Monday that tells me your singles/doubles preference and your doubles partner preference, but this is not a guarantee that you will get your preferences. Please know that I have been doing this a long time and I know what I am doing and I will do what is best for the team and for you, in that order.
PARTY ON!
We will have a team ( VARSITY AND JV) party soon , and we will elect captains on Friday, March 21. You must be a junior or senior to be a captain. You will give speeches (2min approx) on Friday. There will be two captains. If there is a tie, we will re-vote to break the tie on Monday. I think three captains is too much.
I NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE! APRIL 12, 2008.
As many of you know , I am a photographer and I have a wedding to shoot April 12. ( I booked it way before I knew we'd be playing in the Spring. ) The competitive team has a invitational in Troy. I need a parent or two who knows tennis to "play coach" on that date , so we don't have to back out of the invitational. Please let me know as soon as possible.
T H A N K Y O U !!
I have admired your commitment thus far and I am looking forward to a great year.
